About HMP Send

HMP Send is a closed women’s prison near Guildford. The role demands professionalism and emotional intelligence. You’ll need to work closely with female prisoners, supporting their rehabilitation while maintaining a secure environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and support prisoners during day-to-day activities
  • Build constructive relationships with offenders to support their rehabilitation
  • Manage conflict and challenging behaviour calmly and professionally
  • Work as part of a tight-knit team to keep the prison safe and secure
  • Undertake various roles including peacekeeping, mentoring and supporting learning

What we’re looking for

No qualifications needed. We’re looking for individuals with the right personal qualities:

  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Good judgement and effective decision-making
  • Empathy, compassion and a commitment to quality
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with unpredictable situations

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must have the right to work in the UK
  • You must pass a medical and fitness assessment, including hearing and eyesight checks
  • Visible tattoos must not be offensive or intimidating; facial tattoos are generally not acceptable unless for cultural or medical reasons
  • For high-security prisons, you must have lived in the UK for the past 3 years

Salary & hours

Choose from 37, 39 or 41 hours a week:

  • 37 hrs: £34,448 per year
  • 39 hrs (standard): £36,494 per year
  • 41 hrs: £38,541 per year

Salaries include all location and role-related allowances. Additional paid hours may be available.
