Requirements
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice
- Eligibility for Specialist Registration in Psychiatry
- Experience in adult inpatient mental health services

Salary Details
This post pays £106,000 to £154,760 per annum, pro rata, following the NHS hospital medical and dental staff pay scheme.
About the Role
This is your chance to join a tight-knit team delivering impactful work in a supportive team environment. Based on Ty Cyfannol Ward in Caerphilly, you’ll provide consultant-level care to adults aged 18 to 65 within a 23-bed mixed gender ward.
You’ll be part of a compassionate, forward-thinking inpatient unit that works closely with the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team and Community Mental Health Teams in North and South Caerphilly.
This role isn’t just about oversight. It’s about helping shape mental health care across Gwent. You’ll contribute to service innovation like developing alternatives to hospital admissions and improving access to care through Wales’ Mental Health 111 pathway.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert psychiatric assessment and treatment for inpatients
- Support multi-disciplinary decision-making and care planning
- Engage in service improvement for crisis and home treatment pathways
- Promote a person-centred care model aligned with the Welsh Mental Health Measure
- Build stronger collaboration with social care and third sector services
- Supervise and support junior doctors and allied professionals
- Participate in audit, teaching and clinical governance initiatives
