Requirements

  • Completion of Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) IAPT training
  • Experience supporting children or young people
  • Strong grasp of child development and family dynamics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to travel between sites including schools and NHS premises
  • Positive mindset and reflective attitude
  • Able to work with evidence-based models like low intensity CBT
  • Understanding of mental health early intervention and prevention

Salary Details

This Band 5 role offers a competitive salary between £29,970 and £36,483, depending on experience and working hours.

About the Role

This isn’t your typical mental health support job. As a Children and Young Peoples Wellbeing Practitioner, you’ll be out in the community, making direct impact from day one. Working as part of the Early Help Team, you’ll support children and young people with emerging mental health needs—right at the point where it matters most.

Your focus will be on early intervention, using low intensity CBT and other tools to promote emotional wellbeing and resilience. Whether it’s through direct sessions, group work, or guiding families, your work helps young people feel heard, safe, and supported. You’ll also co-deliver training in schools and community settings to help others better understand mental health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted mental health support to young people and families
  • Support CAMHS Liaison Practitioners in early-stage mental health cases
  • Deliver group interventions and parenting programmes
  • Participate in community assessments and school-based consultations
  • Evaluate interventions using Routine Outcome Monitoring
  • Attend child protection and multi-agency meetings as required
  • Deliver training from CAMHS to schools and local organisations
  • Keep accurate, confidential records and engage with clinical governance
