Requirements

  • RSPH Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in mortuary services
  • Strong understanding of HTA standards, ISO15189, and infection control
  • Excellent communication skills across clinical and public-facing roles
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive situations
  • Comfortable working on-call and rotating between hospital sites
  • Skilled in mortuary equipment operation, maintenance, and compliance
  • Management or leadership training is a plus

This position falls under NHS Band 6, offering £38,682 to £46,580 per year, plus additional compensation for on-call shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations across two major hospital mortuaries
  • Perform advanced postmortems, including paediatric and forensic cases
  • Support HM Coroner services with specialist autopsy procedures
  • Communicate with bereaved families, police, and funeral directors
  • Train, supervise, and appraise junior mortuary staff
  • Maintain stock control, records, and compliance systems
  • Respond to infection control risks and advise on safety protocols
  • Participate in audits, equipment procurement, and service development
  • Support internal and external inspections to maintain HTA accreditation
