Requirements
- Good standard of written and spoken English
- Willingness to complete the Care Certificate
- Enthusiastic about providing hands-on, compassionate care
- Keen to work as part of a close-knit, motivated team
- Comfortable with shift-based work including nights and weekends
Desirable but not required:
- Completed Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2
- Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English and Maths
- Experience in a care setting or with First Aid
Salary Details
The role is Band 2, offering a salary between £25,427 and £26,958 per year including HCA allowance, depending on experience. You’ll also benefit from enhancements for nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
About the Role
This isn’t just another ward role. It’s about making people feel safe and respected in their most vulnerable moments. As a Healthcare Support Worker, you’ll bring comfort, dignity, and a sense of normality to patients across medical and surgical teams. Whether you’re helping someone eat their first post-op meal or supporting them through personal care, what you do will have real impact.
Shifts are 12.5 hours long and rotate through days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. You’ll be working three shifts a week, with a fourth added in one week out of four. It’s full-on, but it’s fulfilling.

Key Responsibilities
- Support patients with personal care and day-to-day activities
- Work closely with registered nurses and the wider care team
- Encourage patients to regain independence where possible
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, and dignity at all times
- Accurately report and document patient observations
- Be an active part of a compassionate and professional care environment
