Requirements

  • BSc in Dental Sciences, Maxillofacial Technology, or Biomedical/Clinical Engineering
  • Strong experience managing complex technical workloads
  • Skilled in CAD software like Materialise, Blender, or Meshmixer
  • Hands-on ability with 3D printing workflows, scanning and post-processing
  • Confident handling CT, MRI, or intraoral scan datasets for virtual surgical planning
  • Comfortable working within multidisciplinary teams, clinics, and surgical planning meetings
  • Interested in mentoring and service development through research and training

About the Role

This is no ordinary technical role. As a 3D Digital Biomedical Engineer, you’ll bridge the space between virtual planning and real-world surgical outcomes. You’ll support cases from cranioplasty and trauma to cleft and ENT surgeries, crafting bespoke guides, models, and implants that make all the difference for surgical precision.

You’ll operate advanced 3D printers, digitise clinical data, and translate patient anatomy into exacting surgical tools. You’ll also play a key part in training and mentoring, and help shape the future of cranio-maxillofacial reconstruction across the NHS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convert CT, MRI, or scan data into surgical models using advanced CAD tools
  • Design surgical guides, splints, and implants for orthognathic and trauma patients
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers to manufacture high-accuracy anatomical models
  • Capture intraoral and desktop scans for surgical planning
  • Attend and support multidisciplinary clinics and planning sessions
  • Ensure data security, documentation, and quality standards are consistently met
  • Support ongoing training, audits, and departmental research
