Summary
The Maintenance Team Lead (MTL) oversees a team of Technicians, ensuring the delivery of preventative and corrective maintenance for an assigned facility. In addition to people leadership responsibilities, the MTL also actively performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
People Leadership:
- Actively involved in recruiting talent, providing mentoring, coaching, and guidance to team members.
- Manages all aspects of performance, recommends compensation adjustments, and ensures full involvement in talent recruitment.
- Trains, coaches, and collaborates with the maintenance team to ensure work aligns with building codes and safety standards.
- Oversees and monitors Technicians’ activities, ensuring compliance with established processes and internal/external requirements.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Ensures proper application and execution of processes to meet all requirements.
- Performs regular facility, mechanical, and electrical equipment monitoring, inspection, and preventative/corrective maintenance.
- Provides observations and recommendations for facility enhancements and repairs.
- Responds to service requests and conducts maintenance on facility equipment and systems.
- Maintains work order records, coordinates preventative maintenance programs, and oversees tool inventory.
Client Relations
- Enhances tenant and customer satisfaction through positive work performance and service delivery.
- Maintains constant and effective communication with leadership and clients.
Administration
- Develops work schedules, assigns tasks, and conducts audits on team repairs.
- Ensures proper completion and tracking of work orders.
- Assesses escalation calls, dispatches Technicians, plans maintenance tasks, and promotes schedule adherence.
- Coordinates facility-related projects, submits expenditures on time, and fulfills on-call/standby duties.
Knowledge & Skills
- College Diploma/Certification required.
- Five (5+) years of relevant experience in HVAC, Property Management, or equivalent.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of building codes, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and resolution skills.
- High environmental, health, and safety mindset.
- Effective communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Advanced knowledge of building automation systems (BAS).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Valid driver’s license.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
Any one of the following considered an asset:
- HVAC or equivalent Provincial License.
- Building Operator Certification.
- Journeyman Level Industrial Instrumentation.
- Management courses in Facilities Management.
- Systems Maintenance Administration Certification.
- Facilities Management Administrator (FMA).
- Facilities Management Professional (FMP).
