Requirements

  • GCSEs in English, Maths and Science (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
  • Some scientific knowledge and basic lab skills like pipetting and using automated equipment
  • Comfortable with computer systems, data input and lab software
  • Strong communication skills with a clear eye for detail
  • Awareness of patient confidentiality and data handling
  • Understanding of Health and Safety protocols in a lab setting
  • Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Clinical Lab Support or similar experience
  • Desirable: Hands-on work with DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, or flow cytometry

Salary Details

This is a Band 3 role with an annual salary of £27,515, plus London weighting where applicable.

About the Role

Here’s a role that gives your curiosity a home. You’ll join GOSH’s Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service, working closely with teams in Molecular Haematology and Flow Cytometry. Every test you help run or prepare impacts how children with serious illnesses are diagnosed and treated.

Whether you’re isolating cells from bone marrow, assisting in PCR setups, or handling urgent samples from oncology or transplant patients, you’re right where innovation meets care. You’ll learn alongside a team that believes in growing their people and giving you the space to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with sample preparation for high-stakes diagnostic tests
  • Support DNA and RNA extraction workflows
  • Carry out cell separations from blood and bone marrow samples
  • Maintain accurate sample records and prepare materials for analysis
  • Communicate effectively with both clinical and lab teams
  • Uphold rigorous Health and Safety standards
  • Help maintain lab quality by following ISO15189 standards
