Requirements
- Lived Experience: Personal experience with mental health challenges, or caring for someone who has
- Peer Support Knowledge: Understanding of recovery, wellbeing, and the value of shared experiences
- Team Collaboration: Comfortable working closely with multidisciplinary teams
- Driving Licence: Must be a driver due to rural travel needs
- Positive Approach: Committed to lifelong learning and recovery-oriented care
- Formal Training: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent skills; Peer Support qualification preferred
Salary Details
This Band 3 position offers a pro rata salary of £24,937 to £26,598, aligned with the Agenda for Change pay scheme.
About the Role
This isn’t your usual healthcare job. As a Peer Support Worker, your lived experience is your superpower. You’ll offer practical and emotional support to adults navigating mental health challenges, drawing from your own journey to inspire hope and belief in recovery.
You’ll work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team, supporting individuals with complex needs as they reclaim purpose, confidence, and connection. Whether it’s helping someone find a new passion, reconnect with their community, or just believe in themselves again, your role is about being that steady, understanding presence.
You’ll also help service users explore opportunities in education, employment, welfare, housing, and more, all while advocating for co-production and peer-led service development. Every interaction you have will matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Help individuals navigate their recovery using your own experience as guidance
- Offer hope and encouragement by sharing your story where appropriate
- Work with people one-on-one and in groups to meet personal, social, and wellbeing goals
- Contribute to care planning and delivery in collaboration with the team
- Encourage participation in service improvement and co-design
- Be a relatable role model, someone who’s walked the path and come out stronger
