Requirements
- Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2, or willingness to complete within 12 months
- Numeracy, literacy and IT skills at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSEs A* to C or grades 9 to 4)
- Experience using cleaning materials and equipment to high standards
- Background in general cleaning duties, ideally in mental health or learning disabilities settings
- Knowledge of health and safety and COSHH procedures
- Able to demonstrate thoroughness, attention to detail, and safe working practices
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Reliable, flexible, and motivated with strong time management
- Positive, empathetic approach to working with patients and staff
Salary Details
Band 2 Agenda for Change: £24,465 a year pro rata.
About the Role
As a Housekeeper, you’ll help create a safe and supportive environment for both patients and staff. Your role isn’t just about cleaning, it’s about contributing to recovery. By keeping wards, communal areas, and offices clean, tidy, and welcoming, you’ll support patients on their journey to better mental health.
You’ll work as part of the Hotel Services team at West Park Hospital, providing both cleaning and catering services. This means using your skills with cleaning equipment, handling food safely, and keeping high standards throughout. If you care about making a difference behind the scenes while supporting frontline healthcare staff, you’ll find this role rewarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain clean and safe patient, office, and communal areas, improving the overall care environment
- Carry out deep cleaning and specialised cleaning tasks, supporting infection prevention and safety
- Support catering services including food preparation and safe use of kitchen equipment
- Work flexibly across shifts, ensuring patients and staff always have a clean and safe environment
- Apply knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety guidelines to protect everyone’s wellbeing
- Provide a positive and supportive presence in a healthcare setting, making patients feel respected and cared for
