- Ability to study at degree level or NVQ3 equivalent
- At least two years’ experience working with children, young people, or families
- Strong communication skills to connect with schools, families, and agencies
- Commitment to anti-oppressive practice ensuring fair access to services

- Flexibility to travel across schools and locations in the BNSSG area
Salary Details
This role is offered on £27,485 to £30,162 per year, following NHS pay scales and aligned to experience.
About the Role
As a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner, you’ll join the Mental Health Support Team delivering guided, evidence-based support in schools. Under supervision, you’ll provide low-intensity CBT interventions to children and young people struggling with mild to moderate anxiety, low mood, or behavioural difficulties.
This isn’t just a job. It’s a year of professional growth where you’ll study at Exeter University while working hands-on in schools. The training and day-to-day practice give you the tools and confidence to help children access mental health care early, making a lasting difference in their lives.
Your role is about more than supporting individuals. It’s about helping schools build an environment where mental health is openly addressed and supported, creating ripple effects across communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised CBT interventions that directly support children’s wellbeing
- Work with schools and families to build accessible support pathways
- Balance academic study with practical training to become a qualified practitioner
- Champion anti-oppressive approaches so services reach every child fairly
- Collaborate with multi-agency partners to improve access to care
- Contribute to service design by including voices of children and families
