Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in childhood studies or related field
  • Counselling skills training with ability to support families emotionally
  • Experience working with children and families facing bereavement or difficult circumstances
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and bereavement care
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, and cultural sensitivity
  • IT skills including Microsoft Word for records and reporting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with evidence of multi agency work
  • Ability to facilitate therapeutic play or group work with children and siblings

About the Role

As a Child and Wellbeing Practitioner, you’ll provide emotional and practical support to children, siblings, and families at pivotal times. Whether it’s guiding nurses in care planning, supporting siblings after bereavement, or helping families access resources, your role is to be a steady presence in challenging moments.

You’ll also contribute to service improvements, ensuring that children’s voices shape the care provided. By linking with schools, voluntary agencies, funeral directors, and health teams, you’ll make sure families receive joined up support that truly meets their needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children, siblings, and families with practical and emotional care to reduce distress
  • Guide nurses and short break facilitators in creating individualised care plans that truly reflect each child’s needs
  • Facilitate therapeutic play activities that help children express themselves and build resilience
  • Liaise with schools, healthcare professionals, and agencies to deliver seamless support across services
  • Provide sensitive support to families following bereavement, helping them navigate difficult processes
  • Contribute to service development projects, ensuring continual improvement in care delivery
  • Keep accurate records and reports that inform effective support and future planning
  • Attend team meetings and caseload reviews to share insights and maintain collaborative working
