Requirements
- Professional qualification in social work with valid registration
- Minimum of 12 months’ post qualifying experience or completion of AYSE
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and complex social care needs
- Ability to travel independently across the locality with access to a vehicle
- IELTS level 7 (speaking 8) required for international applicants
- Desirable: postgraduate training in specialist areas, experience in multidisciplinary teams, knowledge of mental health or learning disability support

About the Role
This Senior Social Worker post sits within the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Service, covering York and Scarborough. The focus is on supporting women during pregnancy and the first year after birth. You’ll manage a defined caseload, often involving complex safeguarding issues, while working closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team.
The role isn’t just about case management. It’s about advocating for mothers, protecting children, and ensuring families get the right support when it matters most. You’ll also help shape how the social worker role develops in this growing team, leaving a lasting impact on both practice and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide social work input for women experiencing perinatal mental health difficulties so care is holistic and family-focused
- Manage a caseload of service users with safeguarding needs, ensuring safety and wellbeing
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver joined-up, effective care
- Offer professional advice and guidance on social care matters to colleagues and partner agencies
- Contribute to service development by embedding social work practice into perinatal care
- Support training and awareness to strengthen safeguarding knowledge within the team
