Requirements
- Good level of education with strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Experience working in a busy team-based environment
- Previous portering or facilities activities experience
- Ability to manage physically demanding work such as moving heavy cages safely
- Manual handling training and knowledge of waste processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset
- Flexibility to work shifts and adapt to changing schedules
- Resilient attitude to cope with emotional and sensitive situations on wards
Salary Details
This role is paid at £24,465 per annum, Agenda for Change Band 2.
About the Role
As a Porter with North Bristol NHS Trust, you’ll be part of the operational team that keeps the hospital running smoothly. It’s not just moving equipment or patients from one place to another. Every task you take on – from delivering urgent blood products to supporting emergency responses – helps frontline staff focus on providing life-saving care. You’ll be the person patients and colleagues can rely on when it matters most, making the hospital a safer and more efficient place for everyone.
Key Responsibilities
- Move patients, beds, medical equipment and consumables to keep hospital services flowing
- Clean and maintain portering equipment so everything is safe and ready for use
- Deliver urgent blood products when requested to support critical care
- Respond quickly during major incidents to support emergency teams
- Handle waste and furniture safely to keep hospital areas clear and functional
- Provide sensitive and professional support around patients and families in difficult circumstances
