Job Description:
Affirm is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (ML Fraud) to join their team remotely. In this role, the individual will utilize Affirm’s proprietary and third-party data to develop machine learning models predicting the likelihood of fraud. These models play a crucial role in protecting identities, preventing financial loss, and fostering trust within the Affirm ecosystem. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to research innovative solutions, build fraud-specific ML infrastructure, and implement scalable data pipelines and algorithms.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop machine learning models to predict fraud likelihood, utilizing Affirm’s proprietary and third-party data.
  • Collaborate with the ML platform team to build fraud-specific ML infrastructure.
  • Research and prototype groundbreaking solutions for fraud decisioning.
  • Implement and scale data pipelines, features, and algorithms essential to production models.
  • Define requirements for new products in collaboration with engineering, fraud, and product teams.
  • Maximize user conversion while minimizing fraud losses and data costs through the development of fraud models.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 6+ years of experience in building and deploying ML models (relevant PhD can count for up to 2 years of experience).
  • Proficiency in machine learning, including gradient boosting, online learning, and deep learning.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems like Spark and Ray.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, xgboost, and pytorch.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional requirements.
  • Persistence, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Pay Grade: CAN30
