Requirements
- Professional registration: NMC, HPC, or psychology graduate
- Evidence of continued professional development in substance misuse treatment
- Strong skills in motivational interviewing and relapse management
- Ability to assess and treat dual diagnosis cases with respect and cultural sensitivity
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and prioritising tasks effectively

Salary Details
This role offers between £44,485 and £52,521 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
About the Role
As a Young Persons Worker, you’ll work with individuals aged 21 and under who are experiencing hazardous, harmful, or dependent patterns of drug and alcohol use. Based in Hillingdon Borough, you’ll carry out detailed assessments, develop personalised care plans, and use evidence-based interventions such as motivational interviewing to support recovery.
This role goes beyond one-to-one work. You’ll have the chance to run group interventions, design outreach programmes, and train other professionals working with young people. Your input will directly shape how services respond to the needs of the community, making this a role where your impact is both immediate and long term.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive assessments using interviews, risk tools, and observations to understand each young person’s needs
- Deliver evidence-based counselling and relapse prevention that promotes recovery and resilience
- Develop group interventions and outreach projects that connect with hard-to-reach young people
- Train and support professionals in schools, healthcare, and community services to raise awareness and build capability
- Represent the service in clinical and strategic forums, helping influence the direction of local provision
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to performance reporting that drives service improvements
