Requirements

  • Good level of education with strong literacy and numeracy

Salary Details

This Band 2 role offers £24,833 per annum under the Agenda for Change pay scheme.

About the Role

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward is fast-paced and dynamic, admitting patients from the Emergency Department and Cardiff’s major trauma unit. As a Health Care Support Worker, you’ll be a core part of the patient journey, from supporting personal care to monitoring vital signs. You’ll be working alongside nurses, doctors and ward clerks, ensuring patients are safe, comfortable and treated with dignity. Every task you take on contributes directly to patient recovery and the smooth running of the ward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified nurses in delivering hands-on care that helps patients feel safe and supported
  • Meet daily hygiene, nutrition and toileting needs to maintain dignity and comfort
  • Take and record observations that guide treatment decisions and protect patient safety
  • Maintain supplies, PPE and equipment to keep the ward running smoothly
  • Support wound dressings and safe waste disposal to prevent risks and infections
  • Document patient care accurately, ensuring clear communication across the team
  • Liaise with colleagues on admissions, transfers and discharges to provide continuity of care
