Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with active NMC registration in mental health, learning disability, or adult nursing
  • Sound understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983/2007 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures for children and adults
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and resilience in families
  • Willingness to travel across Sussex, Kent, and Surrey with a mix of remote and face to face work
  • Compassion, adaptability, and a genuine drive to support veterans and their loved ones

Salary Details

Salary will be offered in line with NHS pay banding and confirmed based on experience during the recruitment process.

About the Role

This Family Worker post is a core part of the Op Courage Veteran Mental Health and Wellbeing team. The role focuses on strengthening families of veterans so that recovery and resilience extend beyond the individual.

Day to day, you’ll be carrying out assessments, designing recovery plans, and offering welfare support that helps families feel secure and supported. By working closely with colleagues across Op Courage, you’ll ensure families and carers receive the right guidance, advice, and pathways to manage challenges independently.

This work isn’t only about care in the moment but about laying down foundations for lasting wellbeing. Every conversation and recovery plan can change the way a family adapts and thrives after military transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed family assessments to identify unique needs and priorities
  • Create recovery plans that focus on stability, self management, and long term resilience
  • Provide welfare support and advice that helps families navigate complex systems
  • Work hand in hand with the wider Op Courage team to deliver joined up care
  • Support families to build independence so veterans can recover with stronger networks around them
