Requirements

  • Certificate in Anatomical Pathology (RIPHH) or equivalent
  • Experience in infection control, forensic procedures, and autopsy reconstruction
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety including COSHH regulations

About the Role

As an Anatomical Pathology Technician, you’ll play a crucial part in mortuary operations across Mersey and West Lancashire. From preparing the deceased for post mortem to supporting bereaved families, this is a role that combines technical expertise with compassion.

You’ll be assisting pathologists, preparing the post mortem room, and ensuring all identification checks are handled with accuracy. The work involves careful attention to health and safety standards, as well as compliance with HTA guidelines. What makes this role rewarding is knowing your contribution supports families during one of the hardest times of their lives, while ensuring services for HM Coroner and the NHS run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the post mortem room and deceased in line with policies and procedures
  • Assist pathologists in examinations to maintain workflow and accuracy
  • Support bereaved families by preparing the deceased for viewing
  • Carry out thorough ID checks during receipt and release of the deceased
  • Work closely with coroners, police, and bereavement services to provide joined-up care
  • Contribute to CPD activities, advancing skills and knowledge within the mortuary setting

This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
