Salary Details
Band 2, in line with NHS Agenda for Change pay structure, including pension and allowances for weekend shifts.
About the Role
As a Catering Assistant, you’ll help provide nutritious and appealing meals for patients at Chippenham Community Hospital. You’ll prepare and serve food safely, keeping in line with NHS catering standards and Food Safety regulations. Whether you’re regenerating pre-prepared meals, plating dishes, or ensuring dietary needs are met, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining quality and care across every service.
This position calls for someone reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to helping the Trust maintain its high standards. You’ll work alongside a friendly Hotel Services Team, contributing directly to the wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors each day.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a range of meals, including modified diets, to meet patient nutritional needs
- Handle deliveries and check quality, temperature, and stock rotation
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment following hygiene and health protocols
- Operate tills and manage cash handling where applicable
- Communicate effectively with ward staff and patients to ensure satisfaction and safety
- Step in for supervisors when required to ensure smooth service operations

Applicants must complete a DBS check. Costs are £21.50 for a Standard check or £49.50 for an Enhanced check, recoverable from initial pay periods.
