About the Role
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and wants to make a visible difference in patients’ recovery. As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you’ll support qualified therapists in assessing and treating patients with communication and swallowing difficulties at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
You’ll assist with therapy sessions, help set up the videofluoroscopy clinic, and handle delegated administrative duties that keep the service running smoothly. Every task contributes directly to improving a patient’s ability to communicate and eat safely—a small action with a big human impact.
You’ll manage your own caseload within agreed parameters, implement exercise programmes, create personalised communication aids, and liaise with families and other professionals to ensure seamless care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing therapy and rehabilitation plans designed by registered professionals
- Support patients with communication and swallowing difficulties, ensuring safety and dignity
- Prepare and participate in weekly videofluoroscopy clinics
- Maintain accurate records and reports of treatment outcomes
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care
- Engage with patients’ families to promote understanding and continued progress at home
Each responsibility plays a part in restoring independence and improving patients’ quality of life.
