Requirements

  • A professional qualification in teaching, nursing, social work, allied health, counselling, or psychological therapy
  • Experience supporting the mental health of children, young people, and families
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and welfare promotion for children and young people
  • Strong understanding of universal and specialist children’s mental health services
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and caseload management skills
  • Confidence working both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and associated IT systems effectively
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Eligibility to undertake CBT PG Diploma training at Northumbria University beginning January 2026

Salary Details

This role offers a competitive Band 6 salary between £38,682 and £46,580 per annum, under the Agenda for Change pay scheme. The position is fixed term for 12 months while you complete your postgraduate training.

About the Role

As a Trainee Children and Young People’s Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, you’ll be part of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service (CYPMHS), supporting children, adolescents, and their families across South Tyneside, Sunderland, or Gateshead. You’ll deliver evidence-based CBT interventions under supervision, gaining real-world clinical experience while completing your CBT PG Diploma at Northumbria University.
