Salary Details
This is a Band 5 role offering £31,049 to £37,796 per annum depending on experience.
About the Role
As an NHS 111 Mental Health First Responder, you’ll be the first voice of calm for people calling in crisis. You’ll triage callers, assess their needs, and direct them to the right level of care, whether that’s providing immediate advice, connecting them to local services, or deploying face-to-face support.
You’ll work within an innovative collaboration between Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust, ensuring people receive fast, compassionate responses wherever they are. In some cases, you’ll also meet service users in person to carry out psychosocial assessments and design short-term support plans that make a real difference.
Every call you take has the potential to change a life. Your role isn’t just about assessment—it’s about connection, reassurance, and giving people the confidence that help is available.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver person-centred triage to callers presenting with mental health concerns, offering advice and direction to appropriate services
- Conduct psychosocial assessments for service users who require face-to-face support to identify needs and create tailored plans
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care coordination across services
- Provide immediate emotional support while maintaining clinical professionalism and safety
- Use evidence-based tools to assess risk and make informed decisions under pressure
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold confidentiality standards at all times
- Contribute to team learning and continuous service improvement to strengthen crisis response systems
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020.
