Requirements

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
  • Minimum of six years’ experience at specialty grade in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Strong communication, leadership and collaboration skills
  • Experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to deliver sensitive and person-centred mental health care
  • A valid UK driving licence or evidence of alternative transport arrangements
  • Eligible for or holding Section 12(2) MHA 1983 approval within six months of appointment

The salary ranges from £100,870 to £111,441 per year, depending on experience, plus a £35,000 Recruitment and Retention Package payable in structured instalments over three years.

About the Role

This Specialist Grade Psychiatrist position is based at Meadowfield Hospital in Worthing, West Sussex, across the Rowan and Maple wards. Each ward supports adults experiencing acute mental health crises who need short-term inpatient care. You’ll be joining a well-established multidisciplinary team including consultants, trainees, psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses and ward managers.

Your clinical expertise will help shape inpatient care, guiding the assessment, treatment and recovery of patients while working closely with colleagues to ensure high standards of safety and compassion. You’ll also mentor trainee doctors, contribute to service development, and help implement new ways of working that make care more effective and human-centred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality psychiatric assessment and treatment for adults in acute inpatient settings
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop effective and compassionate care plans
  • Mentor and supervise trainee doctors to support their clinical growth
  • Ensure clinical governance standards are met through quality improvement and reflective practice
  • Contribute to service development by identifying and implementing better ways of working
  • Promote patient safety through early identification of risks and appropriate intervention
  • Engage in ward leadership that fosters respect, communication and teamwork
