About the Role
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you’ll join the Biochemistry team supporting a 24/7 Blood Science service. Your role keeps the lab running efficiently, ensuring every sample that arrives is processed accurately and on time. You’ll handle, label, and log biological samples, preparing them for analysis using state-of-the-art technology. Each task you complete plays a part in delivering timely results that directly impact patient care.
This is a hands-on role suited for someone who enjoys practical work, values accuracy, and thrives under pressure. You’ll gain exposure to laboratory operations and develop transferable skills that could open doors to specialist NHS careers.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, and log biological samples to support diagnostic testing accuracy
- Operate and maintain biochemistry equipment under supervision
- Input data into laboratory systems ensuring patient records remain accurate
- Follow safety protocols when handling specimens and chemicals
- Assist with maintaining workflow within the 24-hour Blood Science service
- Support senior staff with administrative and specimen preparation tasks that keep operations running smoothly
