Requirements
- Registered nurse at degree level with evidence of ongoing development
- Advanced communication training supporting thoughtful conversations
- Strong knowledge of specialist palliative care
- Ability to assess complex needs and make sound decisions
- Understanding of clinical governance and how it shapes safe care
- Comfort working in changing environments
- Experience applying research to practice
- Good IT skills for everyday clinical tasks
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Commitment to equality and patient rights
- Two years post basic experience including time in palliative care
- Competence in symptom management
- Team focused mindset within MDT settings
- Experience with audits to support quality work
- Adaptability and self motivation
- Calm approach to difficult conversations
Salary Details
This Band 6 post offers 38682 to 46580 pa pro rata.
About the Role
You join a team that supports people facing life limiting illness in their own homes and local communities. You meet patients and families during moments when clarity, reassurance and steady guidance ease fear. You assess symptoms, share practical advice and coordinate with other professionals so care feels seamless. You help people stay comfortable and supported and you give carers the confidence to manage day to day challenges.
Some days you focus on community visits in West Cumbria and other days you may help colleagues on hospital wards or in nearby areas. The variety keeps you sharp and the team around you wants you to grow. If you enjoy using both technical skill and human insight this role offers space to deepen both. It can be demanding but it can also be one of the most rewarding parts of nursing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess palliative needs so patients feel heard and care plans reflect what matters
- Manage symptoms to improve comfort and quality of life
- Support families and carers helping them navigate uncertainty
- Share specialist advice with colleagues so knowledge spreads through the team
- Coordinate with MDT partners ensuring no one feels lost between services
- Contribute to audits and service improvements that strengthen future care
