In a significant move to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, AI startup Anthropic has announced the launch of its first enterprise product and a free iPhone app. Backed by tech giants like Google, Salesforce, and Amazon, who have collectively invested over $7.3 billion in the company in the past year, Anthropic is positioning itself as a major player in the generative AI space.

The new enterprise offering, dubbed “Team,” has been developed based on feedback from beta customers across various industries, including technology, financial services, legal, and healthcare. These customers had been actively using Anthropic’s flagship AI model, Claude, and requested a dedicated enterprise product.

Team provides access to Anthropic’s latest and most powerful AI models, including Claude 3 Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku. Key features include increased usage limits, admin tools, billing management, and the ability to process longer documents and research papers through an extended “context window.”

According to Anthropic, the most capable model, Claude 3 Opus, outperformed OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini Ultra on industry benchmark tests for knowledge, reasoning, and mathematics. Notably, Claude 3 Opus can summarize texts up to 150,000 words long, significantly more than ChatGPT’s current limit of 3,000 words.

In addition to the enterprise offering, Anthropic has also released its first iOS app for consumers. Available for free across all plans, the app allows users to sync their web-based conversations, upload photos and files from their smartphones, and access Claude’s capabilities on the go.

While Anthropic’s stance on military use of Claude is similar to OpenAI’s updated policy, the company has emphasized a strict “no weapons” policy. Daniela Amodei, co-founder of Anthropic, stated that the company prohibits using Claude for anything that could cause violence or harm.

As the generative AI field continues to grow rapidly, with a record $29.1 billion invested across nearly 700 deals in 2023, Anthropic’s latest offerings position the company to upscale in the enterprise and consumer markets.

With backing from major tech companies and a product lineup designed to cater to businesses and consumers alike, Anthropic is betting big on its ability to gain market share in the highly competitive conversational AI landscape.
