The Lower Kuskokwim School District (LKSD) is the largest rural school district in Alaska, comprising 27 schools, 350 teachers, and about 4,000 Yup’ik students. Job Description

LKSD is seeking dedicated Secondary Math Teachers for the 2024 school year. This role requires relocation to Alaska and involves teaching middle and high school students. The district aims to provide bilingual, culturally appropriate, and effective education, ensuring all students become responsible, productive citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high expectations for student academic success and conduct
  • Administer various assessments to measure student growth and refine instruction
  • Reinforce school-wide rules and expectations
  • Collaborate closely with fellow teachers and staff
  • Differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs
  • Identify academically at-risk students and initiate intervention strategies
  • Participate actively in professional development
  • Communicate frequently with parents
  • Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Assist in implementing school policies and maintaining classroom order
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy
  • Attend and participate in Community School Committee and Advisory Committee meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Valid Alaska Teaching Certification or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment
  • Experience or willingness to learn student teaching and basic competency exam requirements for Alaska Teaching Certificate
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Compensation

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $58,211-$100,698 per year
  • Signing bonus of $2,000 (50% upon arrival, 50% upon completion of the first contract year)
