University Hospitals Birmingham is seeking dedicated and skilled Band 6 Community Midwives to join our team. We have openings at Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull Hospitals, offering a chance to be part of a respected NHS Foundation Trust committed to exceptional midwifery care.

Role Overview:

As a Community Midwife, you’ll play a crucial role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to a diverse population. You will work within a supportive team structure, including a Community Matron, Team Leaders, Maternity Support Workers, and Community Administrators. Each team operates under a named midwife model across GP practices, children’s centers, and home visits. Our team values comprehensive support and a personalized orientation for new members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Care: Assess, plan, and implement midwifery care with a holistic approach. Develop individualized care plans based on evidence and the specific needs of women and families.
  • Education and Mentorship: Support and mentor junior staff and students, providing guidance on clinical and non-clinical procedures.
  • Clinical Expertise: Perform and maintain required clinical procedures, use medical equipment competently, and undertake necessary training. Participate in an on-call rota to assist women during home births or at the Birth Centre.
  • Leadership and Support: Lead in providing care for women requesting home births and perform emergency interventions both at home and in hospital settings. Engage in Clinical Governance by reporting serious incidents and contributing to service development.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Essential: Registered Midwife with a diploma or BSc in Midwifery Studies. Experience in various settings and a solid understanding of child protection processes and mental health issues are required. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Desirable: Additional qualifications like Examination of the Newborn (NIPE) and experience with home births are advantageous.
