- PhD or MD in a relevant field
- Commitment to a research career with an appropriate track record
- GMC registration and clinical practice in the UK
- Specialty training position with a National Training Number (NTN)
- Relevant clinical experience in the chosen specialty
- Eligibility for higher specialist clinical training
- Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check
