Requirements
- Experience of working with children and young people, ideally including those with additional needs and their families
- Commitment to team working and excellent standards of care
- Level 3 NVQ qualification related to caring or equivalent experience
- Successful completion of NHS Care Certificate (beneficial)
- Excellent IT skills and ability to record information accurately and in a timely manner

About the Role
The Health Care Assistant will be providing direct and indirect patient care independently but with support available from a supervisor within the clinical area. They will support the assessment of service users and implementation of programmes of care delegated to them by the appropriate staff member, ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge. The role includes measuring children’s growth, taking blood pressures, testing urine, chaperoning children, and supporting the Paediatricians in clinic. The successful candidate will also be required to take blood from children, with training provided for these skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement programmes of care within the limits of the procedures and pathways in which they have achieved competence
- Support and assist other staff members to deliver care as delegated and directed
- Demonstrate developed physical skills obtained through practice and training
- Observe and evaluate progress, condition, or levels and report to clinician
- Identify risk or changes in condition and take action accordingly
- Engage and actively involve the individual and their family/carer in their assessment and care
- Prioritise own workload and understand the boundaries of their practice
- Be responsible for delegated administration tasks and management of resources within the clinical area
- Comply with the organisation’s Infection Prevention and Control requirements
