About the Role

The Health Care Assistant will play an important role in the dynamic team at the Day Case Surgery unit. The role includes assisting to admit patients using appropriate paperwork and supporting the patient in the post-operative period to facilitate a safe discharge. The post holder will also be expected to undertake any other duties as may be required to meet the needs of the service within the limitations of the grade for the post.

The successful candidate will be a hardworking, motivated team player, including flexibility to respond rapidly, working under the direction of senior nurses within the team. They will need to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service and be able to work effectively with partnership departments and Surgeons across a 5-day working week. Ideally, they will have Surgical experience; however, this is not essential as training will be given.

The unit is currently open 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completing paperwork with the patients on admission
  • Taking patient observations and escalating to trained staff
  • Carrying out various testing i.e., urinalysis, pregnancy testing, blood glucose monitoring
  • Ensuring stock is kept to an acceptable level and ordering more supplies if required
  • Ensuring patient property is safe and transferred to other areas if required
