Position: Mid-Level Systems Engineer (Aircraft Propulsion Systems)

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Mission Technologies Division is seeking a skilled mid-level systems engineer with expertise in aircraft propulsion systems. This exciting opportunity involves direct support for the Propulsion Acquisition Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The successful candidate will contribute to system design, development, integration, and testing of diverse aircraft engines for the US Air Force.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Systems Solution Development:
  • Ensure the systematic conversion of requirements into total systems solutions, adhering to technical and engineering principles.
  • Conduct functional analysis, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  1. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE):
  • Apply MBSE principles to accelerate innovation, enhance operating efficiencies, and assist in the development, integration, and certification of complex systems.
  1. Systems Engineering Life Cycle:
  • Participate in the entire systems engineering life cycle, including requirements development, architecture development, system analyses, integration and test planning, and system verification.
  1. Performance Analysis:
  • Employ various testing, analysis, modeling, and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance.
  • Apply requirements for propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems, and vehicle fuel and tank systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; 3 years with a Master’s; or entry-level with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, implementing, and reporting on Systems Engineering activities in previous propulsion-related efforts.
  • Experience in various aspects of aerospace design development processes, including design, analysis, testing, and integration.
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
  • Must possess a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo, Enterprise Architect, and/or Rhapsody.
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB, PYTHON, and other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of engine test facilities and capabilities within the U.S. Air Force or industry.
  • Experience in High-Speed Airbreathing propulsion and solid rocket propulsion.
  • Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis, and Optimization experience.

Physical Requirements:
Standard office environment. Lifting and moving light materials may be required.
