About the Role
An exciting opportunity has come up for a Band 7 Chemotherapy Nurse Unit Manager at the Viking Day Unit. The primary responsibility here is managing the chemotherapy day unit, ensuring treatments are planned and delivered safely. You’ll work closely with the Matron, nurse educators, and the wider multidisciplinary team, pushing for high standards of care for cancer patients. This is about leadership and direct clinical care in a highly specialized area.
Key Responsibilities
- Management and Leadership – Lead the unit and the team, ensuring a smooth operation while focusing on patient-centered care.
- Clinical and Chemotherapy Administration – Oversee chemotherapy administration and ensure the highest standards of safety and effectiveness in patient care.
- Research and Audit – Keep the unit at the forefront of cancer care through audits and research-driven improvements.
- Education and Training – Foster continuous learning within the team, ensuring that all members are skilled and updated on best practices.
- Communication – Strong, effective communication with patients, families, and the team, especially when navigating difficult discussions.

Requirements
- Post-registration senior nurse experience in a cancer-related area
- Strong leadership skills, able to guide a team in a challenging clinical setting
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deliver sensitive information in a clear manner
- In-depth knowledge of chemotherapy scheduling and outpatient care
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Band 6 Chemotherapy Sister
- Understanding of Oncology and Haematology pathways
- Familiarity with clinical governance principles and how to implement them in day-to-day work
