Requirements
- English, Maths, and Science GCSE (Grade 4-9) or equivalent
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or Healthcare Support Worker Level 2
- Care Certificate achievement (workplace-based)
- Basic experience in hospital environments
- Experience working with children and young people
- Basic scientific and physiological knowledge
- Strong communication skills
- Computer literacy (Windows, MS Office)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
About the Role
The Sleep Service Assistant position offers a unique opportunity to work within GOSH’s specialized sleep study team. Working alongside Healthcare Scientists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Medical staff, the role supports young patients requiring sleep assessments and monitoring. The position combines technical expertise with patient care, requiring both scientific understanding and compassionate interaction with children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain sleep recording equipment
- Set up and download Nocturnal Pulse Oximetry and Home Sleep Apnoea Testing
- Assist in scheduling sleep study appointments
- Work within established policies and procedures
- Communicate effectively with team members and families
- Maintain laboratory safety and quality control standards
- Participate in regular weekday shifts with occasional weekend coverage
- Support the multidisciplinary team in delivering patient care
- Document and record patient data accurately
- Contribute to the department’s continuous improvement
