This Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, their families, and carers. Working under the guidance of Registered Nurses and as part of a multidisciplinary team, the HCSW supports patient care through hands-on assistance, planning, delivering, and evaluating care. Candidates in this role will work various shifts, including long days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays, ensuring 24/7 support for patients.

Requirements
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old to apply
- Ability to work a minimum of 23 hours per week, including flexibility for shifts on long days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Care Certificate or willingness to complete it within six months of employment
- Demonstrable experience in a customer-facing or patient care role
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
- Commitment to HHFT’s values and high standards of patient care
- Desirable: Level 2/3 qualifications in Health and Social Care or Clinical Care, and familiarity with NHS systems

About the Role
The Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is a vital part of HHFT’s healthcare team, working alongside Registered Nurses to ensure high-quality care for all patients. The HCSW assists in a variety of care tasks, contributing to the patient experience by delivering hands-on support, preparing for procedures, and ensuring comfort. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both patients and medical staff.
As an HCSW, the responsibilities include assisting with patient hygiene, feeding, mobility, and overall comfort. HCSWs play an important role in creating a positive and supportive atmosphere for patients, ensuring they receive compassionate and attentive care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Registered Nurses in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to facilitate high-quality care
- Provide direct patient care, including hygiene, feeding, mobility support, and basic clinical tasks
- Uphold HHFT’s standards and values in all patient interactions
- Contribute to a safe and positive patient environment, monitoring for signs of distress or discomfort
- Maintain patient records and documentation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
- Work flexible shifts, including long days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Other important details include an in-person HCSW Interview Day on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. The event will include presentations, talks from clinical staff, and a face-to-face interview. No additional interview dates are available, and applicants must attend in person.
