Requirements
Applicants for this role should have a solid foundation in supporting individuals with mental health needs and must be equipped to provide a high level of compassionate care. Key requirements include:
- Prior experience working with clients who have social needs, with knowledge of agencies like housing, benefits, and community resources.
- Experience supporting clients with substance misuse issues, demonstrating understanding and non-judgmental care.
- Strong listening skills and an ability to manage complex information shared by service users and care coordinators.
- Educational Background: NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent experience is essential.
- Desirable but not required: Experience working within a community setting in statutory or voluntary sectors, and Level 2 training in Safeguarding Children & Young People.
Salary Details
This full-time permanent role offers an annual salary between £24,071 and £25,674. As a Band 3 position within the NHS, the salary aligns with NHS pay standards, reflecting experience and qualifications. About the Role
The Support Worker role is central to Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service, designed to assist individuals aged 14-64 who are dealing with psychological challenges. The primary focus of this role is to offer compassionate support to service users experiencing distressing mental health symptoms, with the goal of helping them regain stability and confidence in their daily lives. The Support Worker will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working under supervision to assess, monitor, and address care needs based on individual care plans.
The EIP service aims to offer guidance and reassurance for those who may be experiencing unusual psychological symptoms, with an emphasis on early intervention. The support worker will play a pivotal role in assisting service users through practical and emotional support, contributing significantly to their wellbeing and mental health recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive and effective communication with service users, their relatives, and carers, ensuring clear and compassionate interactions.
- Provide information and guidance to service users and carers, ensuring they understand their rights and the resources available through health and social care channels.
- Collaborate with service users and carers to identify and access relevant services, supporting them in navigating available options effectively.
- Observe and monitor mental health status, remaining vigilant to changes, and promptly communicate observations to the care team for timely intervention.
- Encourage social and physical activities appropriate to each service user’s needs, helping them integrate into community life and improve their quality of life.
