Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work across all shifts, including early and late, over a 7-day week.
  • Support registered nurses in delivering primary healthcare services to the male prison population at HMP Birmingham.
  • Collaborate as part of an integrated team across Primary Care, Ward 1 (Inpatient Ward), and Reception.
  • Deliver patient care under the direction of registered nurses and assist with administrative tasks, including stock management and rotation.
  • Support and mentor less experienced staff members.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications and Training
Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 in a health-related subject or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in literacy and numeracy (GCSE or equivalent).
  • Commitment to undertaking competency-based training with annual updates.

Experience
Essential:

  • Experience working with adults with complex health needs.
  • Willingness to work in a prison environment.
  • Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team (following competency achievement).

Skills and Knowledge
Essential:

  • Compassionate nursing care that respects individual beliefs and wishes.
  • Awareness of workplace health and safety.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • IT proficiency.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the needs of diverse, multicultural populations.
