Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management to join the multidisciplinary pain team.

Role Details:

  • Band: 6 Substantive Post
  • Locations: The Royal Liverpool Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital

The Pain Service provides inpatient and outpatient care across two hospital sites. The dedicated team includes five specialist nurses, seven consultants, two physiotherapists, and a clinical psychologist.

The inpatient pain team primarily supports post-operative patients and those with other painful conditions, receiving referrals from medical and surgical specialties and palliative care.

New team members will receive mentoring and support from senior specialist nurses.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years post-qualification clinical experience.

Main Duties of the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as the clinical expert and a professional resource for the multi-professional team, patients, and carers.

Responsibilities include

  • Developing and improving the specialist area of practice in collaboration with the team.
  • Managing a defined caseload or providing highly specialized service advice.
  • Setting and evaluating standards of care, assessing care needs, and developing care programs.
  • Contributing to clinical service group objectives within the clinical governance framework.

This will involve delivering clinical practice, demonstrating leadership, advocating for patients, and conducting audits and education.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Registered Nurse/Midwife, post-basic specialist qualification relevant to the specialty, evidence of continued professional development.
  • Desirable: Recordable specialist qualification, Independent Nurse Prescribing, ECDL certification.

Experience

  • Essential: Post-registration clinical experience, extensive clinical expertise, audit involvement.
  • Desirable: Research participation, evidence of leading and facilitating change.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Essential

  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities
  • Root Cause Analysis expertise
