Overview

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) is seeking a qualified and dedicated Community Practitioner to join the Sunderland South Tyneside Children and Young People’s Service. This role includes training for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Evidence-Based Psychological Therapies (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) at Northumbria University, beginning January 2025.

The successful candidate will deliver specialist mental health assessment and interventions to children and young people with complex mental health challenges, including those with learning disabilities, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and manage caseloads for individuals with substantial and complex mental health needs.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Support families and collaborate with partner agencies, including participation in multi-agency meetings to safeguard children.
  • Deliver evidence-based psychological therapies, including CBT, EMDR, family therapy, and art therapy.
  • Engage in collaborative work with partner agencies across various pathways, including mental health, learning disability, and neurodevelopmental assessment.
  • Contribute to internal training programs and participate in supervision.

Key Requirements

Education and Qualification
  • Professional qualification and registration as a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent, AHP, Social Worker, or Clinical Psychologist.
  • Mentor training and evidence of post-registration clinical training relevant to the post.
  • Familiarity with CPA, safeguarding, MAPPA, and child protection protocols.
Knowledge and Experience
  • 12 to 24 months of band 5 qualified nurse experience, depending on service needs.
  • Understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Experience working in community settings and with children and young people (desirable).
Skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment, risk management, and safety planning.
  • Leadership and staff training experience (desirable).
Clinical Skills
  • Evidence of MDT and multi-agency collaboration.
  • Awareness of carer needs and differential diagnosis (desirable).
