The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of approximately 250,000 residents across the Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, and Waveney areas. This Trust provides integrated hospital and community children’s services. There are staff nurse jobs currently available in the organization.

The organisation prioritises both patient and staff experiences and adheres to the following principles:

  • Putting patients first
  • Aiming to get it right
  • Recognising that everybody counts
  • Operating openly and honestly

Job Overview
Motivated staff nurses are sought to contribute to achieving excellent care standards within the new elective orthopaedic hub.

The elective orthopaedic hub is a state-of-the-art facility featuring two theatres, eight daycare pods, and a 28-bedded inpatient ward. Its development involved input from clinicians, patient groups, staff, and infection prevention specialists, alongside national and international research. This innovative environment incorporates advanced technology to enhance patient privacy and dignity, particularly through the use of side rooms.

The daycare pods represent a new model of care, providing individualised rooms for patients pre- and post-operation. The hub caters to a range of elective joint procedures, including total hip and knee replacements and orthopaedic day-case surgeries.

The elective orthopaedic department has established a strong reputation, having achieved “Good” ward accreditation and previously received the Paget Ward of the Year award. Care delivery prioritises patient-centred approaches.

Applicants with prior orthopaedic experience and knowledge of enhanced recovery programmes for elective joint surgery are encouraged to apply.

Main Duties of the Job
The role involves managing the safe care of patients undergoing elective orthopaedic procedures, both pre- and post-operatively. Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to promote early mobilisation, optimised pain management, and safe, early discharge.

Part-time and full-time opportunities are available, with a requirement to cover unsocial and night shifts. Candidates are expected to provide high standards of patient care aligned with the vision of Compassion in Practice and the 6Cs.

Working for the Organisation
The Trust strives to attract top talent and ensures continuous support for professional growth and career development. The focus is on fostering a positive work environment that values staff contributions and potential.
