This role offers a dynamic specialty for both newly qualified and experienced Band 5 nurses, characterized by continuous development and expansion.

As one of the largest Cath Lab Centres in the UK, UHSussex is renowned for clinical, teaching, and research excellence. The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory operates as part of a tertiary center, covering an extensive referral area and providing a 24-hour Primary Myocardial Infarction service. Facilities include three Cath Labs and one hybrid theatre, with steady expansion reflecting the provision of world-class care.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in diagnostic and interventional procedures, including angiograms, PCI, pacing, and electrophysiology (EP) studies.
  • Provide scrub and circulating duties in a theatre-style environment, requiring the use of lead PPE during procedures.
  • Deliver patient-centered care of the highest professional standards, meeting patient needs during cath lab procedures.
  • Act as a professional role model and maintain a safe, effective environment that promotes positive patient experiences.
  • Participate in the emergency on-call team after completing the necessary training.
  • Continually develop and maintain nursing practices relevant to the clinical area.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, and implement care, interpreting data relevant to patient conditions and progress.
  • Identify patient problems and collaborate with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments competently, following NMC guidelines and Trust policies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in caring for critically ill patients, including CVP line care and IV therapy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to support continuity of care.
  • Safeguard patient dignity and privacy, treating all individuals with kindness and respect.
  • Base practice on evidence, adhering to local policies and procedures.
  • Provide nursing care for airway management, vital signs monitoring, and patients under sedation or general anesthesia.
  • Perform procedures such as transoesophageal echocardiograms and scrub roles in diagnostic and interventional cardiology.
  • Participate effectively in cardiac arrest events and non-invasive cardiac monitoring.
  • Safely administer and monitor medications, taking appropriate actions as needed.
