Job Overview
The Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking Band 6 Nurse to join an established team and contribute to the ongoing development of the service. The unit supports patients referred for clinical assessment and/or treatment of surgical, medical, or orthopaedic conditions from sources such as GPs, A&E, and Community Midwives.
Applicants should be proactive, enthusiastic, and motivated, with a commitment to delivering seamless service and high-quality care. The successful candidate will work closely with the PAU Manager to lead the team and advance the service. A structured orientation program and ongoing support are provided to facilitate progression in the role. Although this position is advertised as part-time, full-time hours can be discussed during the interview.
Main Duties of the Job
In collaboration with the Unit Manager and fellow Band 6 Nurses, the post holder will lead and coordinate a dedicated nursing and support team to deliver high-quality care.
During the absence of the PAU Manager (Band 7), the Band 6 nursing team will manage ward resources effectively, including manpower, and ensure adherence to escalation policies in a timely manner.
The role involves contributing to the development, implementation, and monitoring of governance systems within the ward or department, focusing on risk management, health and safety, and controls assurance.
The post holder will also take responsibility for assessing care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs without supervision for a defined patient group.
Strong professional leadership qualities are essential to maintain high standards of care, staff morale, and a positive learning environment. The role involves working shift patterns, including weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
