Main Duties of the Job

The Associate Chief Nurse for Operations and Patient Experience leads the nursing team within the Directorate, offering professional and clinical nursing leadership, advice, and development. Contributions extend to Trust-wide and national projects.

In collaboration with the General Manager and Chief of Service, the role assures the Executive Team and Trust Board that robust governance and performance management systems are in place to deliver child and family-centered care of the highest quality. Additionally, the position involves contributing to a senior nursing team that supports the delivery of exemplary nursing care across the hospital.

The role requires significant senior-level experience in a children’s in-patient environment, alongside strong leadership and staff management skills aligned with Trust values. Excellent communication skills are essential to establish credibility and foster relationships within teams and the broader organization.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

This role is a key part of the Senior Leadership Team within the Sight and Sound Directorate, a diverse unit encompassing Audiology, Cochlear Implant, Cleft, Craniofacial, Dental, ENT, Maxillofacial, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Urology services, among others.

The Associate Chief Nurse leads the nursing team and supports patient experience initiatives across relevant areas, providing professional and clinical leadership while contributing to Trust-wide and national projects. As part of the Directorate Management Team, the role ensures that governance and performance management systems are robust and aligned with organizational goals.

Key responsibilities include delivering visible and effective leadership, acting as a role model, and contributing to a collaborative senior nursing team.

Academic/Professional Qualifications

  • Current RSCN / RN Child registration with the NMC.
  • Relevant first and master’s degrees.
