Position: Laboratory Support Worker (Band 2/3)
Support staff are required to assist qualified scientists with basic sample preparation and data entry tasks. Band placement is contingent on relevant experience.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for the pathology department, addressing various inquiries, including confidential matters.
  • Receive and assess laboratory specimens for analysis.
  • Verify patient identification details and assign laboratory numbers.
  • Distribute specimens to relevant pathology sections, prioritizing urgent and labile samples.
  • Enter patient demographics, clinical details, and assay requests into the laboratory computer system.
  • Prepare samples for diagnostic testing through centrifugation, aliquoting, and appropriate analyzer racking.
  • Perform basic analysis using benchtop instruments under qualified supervision, ensuring instrument quality control.
  • Print, sort, and dispatch laboratory reports.

  • Distribute pathology consumables from the main stores.
