Job Overview
The purpose of these pharmacy assistant jobs is to:

  • Provide support in the delivery of a quality dispensing and medicine supply service.
  • Support the implementation of developments within operational services to meet patient needs.
  • Label, dispense, and supply prescriptions for technical checking.
  • Work flexibly as part of the dispensary team to provide and maintain a comprehensive pharmaceutical service in line with current departmental policies and procedures.

Main Duties of the Job
The responsibilities of the post include:

  • Managing reception duties such as taking in and handing out prescriptions, processing payments, and addressing customer queries.
  • Liaising with patients, hospital staff, and delivery partners to ensure timely home delivery of medicines.
  • Undertaking basic level CMM computer work following appropriate training.
  • Calculating complex doses and quantities required for prescriptions.
  • Receiving and checking delivered pharmaceuticals in line with established procedures, maintaining awareness of health and safety regulations, and ensuring security and storage requirements are met.
  • Storing pharmaceuticals correctly, rotating stock, and checking expiry dates in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assisting with stock level monitoring and completing stock-take procedures with a high level of accuracy.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

  • Handle reception tasks such as processing prescriptions, payments, and customer queries.
  • Coordinate with patients, staff, and delivery partners to facilitate timely medicine deliveries.
  • Use CMM computer systems at a basic level following training.
  • Accurately calculate doses and quantities for prescriptions.
  • Ensure pharmaceuticals are received, checked, and stored in line with procedures, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Rotate stock and monitor expiry dates as per established guidelines.
  • Assist in monitoring inventory levels and conducting stock-takes with precision.

Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential Criteria

  • English and Maths GCSE grade 4 (C) or above or equivalent qualification.
  • General Pharmaceutical Council-approved qualification, such as NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or BTec Level 2.

Experience
Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience working as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using pharmacy-based computer systems.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or community pharmacy setting.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of stock control principles.
