Position: Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (Ophthalmology – PCEU Windsor)
Location: Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP
Additional Benefits: Fringe payment of 5% of gross basic salary.

An opportunity exists at the Prince Charles Eye Unit (Windsor) for an ophthalmic nurse to develop skills such as intravitreal injections (AMD & DMO), pre-operative assessments, and emergency eye care to meet service demands.

The role involves working as part of a large, supportive team across various ophthalmology sub-specialties. Applicants must exhibit professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication to providing high-quality ophthalmic care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

This role suits an experienced, dynamic, and friendly nurse aiming to deliver excellence in patient care.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Supervising junior staff and assisting the department manager in day-to-day clinical activities.
  • Facilitating excellent nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Acting as a role model, demonstrating leadership competencies, and integrating evidence-based practice.
  • Supporting pre-operative assessments by undertaking biometry measurements and acquiring relevant ophthalmic procedural knowledge.
  • Developing competencies for emergency eye care, including patient triage and nursing assessments.
  • Training and independently performing intravitreal injections (AMD & DMO) per local guidelines.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Registered Nurse – Adult Nurse Sub Part 1.
  • Experience in a clinical NHS setting.
  • IT proficiency.
  • Evidence of leadership/management and specialty development.

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

  • Ophthalmic qualification.
  • SSSA Supervisor and Assessor Training (or equivalent).

Essential Experience

  • Significant post-qualification experience, including ophthalmology.
  • Competence in mentoring, teaching, and coaching.
  • Leadership experience and involvement in specialty development.

Desirable Experience

  • Outpatient care expertise.
  • Experience in successful change management.
