Job Overview
This position involves working predominantly with the Phlebotomy team within the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include ensuring patient well-being, delivering basic nursing care, conducting observations, and performing specific investigations such as ECGs to maintain safety and enhance the patient journey. The role requires caring, reliable, and motivated individuals interested in developing emergency care skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Applicants must possess an NVQ Level 3 in healthcare as a minimum and have relevant experience, preferably within an Emergency Department. Previous experience in a healthcare assistant role is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Assisting the Emergency Department team in delivering high standards of care for patients and their families or carers under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Performing tasks and duties as delegated by a registered nurse, including venepuncture, cannulation, basic observations, and ECGs.
  • Managing general housekeeping tasks, such as restocking essential equipment.
  • Supporting patient needs, including toileting, while maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Performing safe movement and handling practices according to training and patient handling plans.
  • Obtaining specimens for ward or laboratory testing.
  • Preparing patients for treatments, procedures, or investigations and assisting with recovery.

Qualifications

  • Essential: NVQ Level 3 in healthcare.

Experience

  • Essential: Experience as a Nursing Assistant.

Knowledge

  • Essential:
    • Understanding of quality and change in a clinical setting.
    • Effective communication in varied settings with patients of differing levels of understanding.
    • Ability to address sensitive issues tactfully and diplomatically.
    • Knowledge of nursing care organisation and basic NHS operations.
    • Basic IT skills, including email usage.
