Exciting opportunities are available for registered children’s nurses at all levels of experience within a friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. Main Duties of the Job
The role involves planning, delivering, and evaluating the personalised health and wellbeing care needs of patients and families, aligned with the Trust’s Values and the Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework Standards.
The dedicated outreach team provides care for children with enuresis, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, complex needs, and acute conditions. Collaboration is maintained with the Emergency Department, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Children’s Outpatients Department, and Community Paediatric Service. The ward-based team is multidisciplinary, including physiotherapists, pharmacists, play specialists, patient experience coordinators, and the CAMHS team.
Working for the Organisation
A preceptorship package is available for newly qualified staff, along with induction training and access to a ward-based educator. The Trust also provides health and well-being support for all staff.
The unit comprises a 26-bedded inpatient ward, 4 high-dependency beds, a Paediatric Assessment Unit, a Children’s Day Case Unit, and services in general paediatric medicine and surgery, ENT, maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, neurology, and shared care oncology.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care to meet patient needs according to local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.
- Provide patient education and health promotion.
- Deliver and coordinate care through professional practice, delegating, and supervising junior staff.
- Proactively manage risks and maintain patient safety while adhering to health, safety, and security legislation.
- Maintain and improve standards of care to enhance patient outcomes.
- Effectively communicate with multidisciplinary teams and external organisations for seamless care.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all care activities, following local and professional documentation standards.
- Act as a role model, fostering a positive image of the team and organisation.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Education
Essential Criteria
- Appropriate NMC registration
- Diploma in Nursing
- RNC Children’s Nursing Posts
- NMC-recognised Mentorship qualification (or willingness to obtain within 18 months)
- Evidence of continuing education or development for experienced Band 5 nurses
Desirable Criteria
- Degree
Knowledge and Experience
Essential Criteria
- Willingness to expand clinical roles, e.g., IV additives, venepuncture, and cannulation
- Awareness of changes in nursing practice
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding policies
- One year of experience in a paediatric ward or department
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of ethical issues, leadership, and management
- Evidence of clinical competence in a specialty (e.g., surgery)
- Research and development experience
- Experience in children’s emergency departments
