Job Overview
The Neuro ICU at St. George’s Hospital is an 18-bed specialist unit within a modern, purpose-built wing. As part of the Adult Critical Care Directorate, this unit is a designated Major Trauma Centre, Stroke Centre, and Regional Neuroscience Centre. It specializes in caring for patients with acquired or traumatic head and spine injuries, as well as complex neurosurgical and neuromedical conditions.
The diverse and inclusive team focuses on staff development, offering rotation opportunities to other ICU areas, secondments to research and outreach teams, and leadership training. Specialist education and management support are integral to the unit’s philosophy.
Main Duties of the Job
The role involves contributing to the NICU Practice Education Team on a part-time basis. Responsibilities include delivering Foundations of Critical Care Nursing education, training in patient transfers and polytrauma, coordinating rotational and mandatory training, and supporting ICU course modules. Additionally, the team organizes specialist study days and local staff development programs.
Practice educators maintain clinical proficiency by working in the unit alongside teaching responsibilities. This post comprises 50% practice education and 50% clinical duties for part-time and full-time candidates, with flexible education hours and clinical rotations.

- Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Completion of CC3N step 2 and step 3 competencies (or equivalent)
- Practice Assessor, Mentorship training, ENB 998 (or equivalent)

- Working towards or completion of a postgraduate teaching qualification
Knowledge

- Familiarity with various learning and teaching styles

Professional Experience
